LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team split their Friday doubleheader in a shootout. MUW won the first game 10-5, but LeTourneau bounced back firing on all cylinders in the second winning 11-9.
The YellowJackets move to 3-3 on the season after the split, while MUW moves to 1-6 on the campaign.
GAME TWO (LeTourneau 11, MUW 9)
Jack Kale,
Austin Wiederhold, and
Dane Jones all notched a pair of RBIs and
Zac Schneider collected his first win of the season.
Aman Patel put together a solid start on the mound for the YellowJackets, pitching 6.0 innings and retiring 4 batters on strikes. Schneider would later be called from the bullpen to work his team out of a jam. The Lefthanded reliever recorded 5 outs and sat down a pair of hitters on strikes.
The YellowJackets offense came out of the gates hot jumping out to an early 8-0 lead. However, MUW would slowly chip away at the monster lead. This would ultimately be a never ending cycle as just as the Owls would be on the cusp of taking a lead the YellowJackets would score.
These clutch hits included a
Ben Jones blast over the fence in left center field, a
Hayden Norris game winning RBI single, and a
Brice Cagle RBI single.
GAME ONE (MUW 10, LeTourneau 5)
LeTourneau fell in the first game of the double header despite putting together a solid offensive effort.
MUW was able to jump out to an early advantage scoring early and often. The YellowJackets were able to sustain the offensive pace early but would ultimately fall short.
Dane Jones, Kale, and
Jonah McDaniel all notched an RBI. McDaniels RBI came on a home run shot to left field. This was the second career home run for the McDaniels.
