Baseball Powers Home 10 Runs En Route to Series Victory

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau baseball clinched a series victory against MUW with a 10-2 rubber match win at Conrad-Vernon Field in Longview on Saturday afternoon.

Blake Vice's first homer of the season, a two-run blast to left field, gave the YellowJackets (4-3) a lead they would not relinquish, and the pitching staff held the Owls (1-7) to just two runs on five hits.

After a scoreless first two innings, LeTourneau scored first in the third, as Xander Nabors dashed home on a wild pitch.

MUW would manufacture a pair of unanswered runs between the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 lead, but Vice had the answer in the bottom of the sixth, bringing in the tying and go-ahead runs with a towering homer to left.

The game remained at 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, and as the YellowJackets came to the plate, something was different.

The electric factory re-opened for business.

Nabors got the gears turning with a double down the left field line to drive in Dane Jones, and then Ben Jones, Isaac Price, Vice, and Zach Zarko added four consecutive RBI knocks to put the game well out of reach.

Clayton Holt (2-0) earned his second win of the season for LeTourneau with 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, striking out three and only giving up a hit and a walk. Starter Ryan Brewer went 4.2 innings with a season-best seven strikeouts, and Jaxson Breedlove made his collegiate debut, throwing a scoreless ninth to seal the win.

Price, Ben Jones, and Vice each collected multiple hits in the game, with Price having a 4-for-4 output with an RBI and two runs scored.

Matthew Windham had the lone multi-hit effort for the Owls, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Starter Will Carter (0-1 received the loss despite a quality start, throwing six innings with six strikeouts, giving up three earned runs.
