Softball Rallies For Run-Rule Victory to Split Day One of NFCA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- LeTourneau rallied to earn a run-rule victory over LaGrange in game two after falling to Gettysburg in game one of their first day at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus.

The YellowJackets are now 5-5 on the year, with LaGrange falling to 3-7 and Gettysburg improving to 1-0.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 9, LaGrange 1

Jenna Rosson hit her first home run as a YellowJacket and Kirstin Ferguson (2-2) threw six innings of one-run ball as LeTourneau cruised to a 9-1 run-rule win over LaGrange.

Maddie Flanery (2-for-4), Jaci Taylor (2-for-3) and Leighton Landreth (3-for-4) all notched multi-hit efforts in the victory, with Landreth and Rosson collecting a pair of RBIs apiece.

Ferguson struck out five in her six innings of work and allowed one unearned run on five hits and two walks.

Landreth's two-RBI single in the first inning got the scoring started, but the Panthers countered with an RBI single off the bat of Alexa Gonzalez in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1.

The floodgates opened after that.

The YellowJackets scored seven unanswered runs between the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Kylie Grisham drive in a run in the fourth on an RBI single, and Rosson added her homer in the fifth. Maddi Smith's RBI single and Kensie Baldwin's RBI walk would bring home the final runs of the game in the sixth inning.

Claire Chamberlain (0-4) got the loss for the Panthers. Offensively, Gonzalez went 2-for 3 with an RBI.

GAME ONE: Gettysburg 2, LeTourneau 0

LeTourneau brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning, but could not muster a comeback as they fell to Gettysburg, 2-0.

Laney Taylor (2-2) got the loss despite pitching well, throwing all six innings, and giving up two earned runs on five hits, striking out four.

At the plate, Taylor had another multi-hit effort, going 2-for-3, while Grisham, Raina Doggett, Alexa Neilon, Rosson, and Lilly Longoria also recorded hits.

The YellowJackets hung with the Bullets for majority of the game, as five innings went by without any runs being scored.

However, a lone two-RBI single in the sixth inning from Elliana Hopple would be the difference, as Gettysburg held on for the win.

Aubrey Bergan had a multi-hit effort for the Bullets, going 2-for-3 out of the leadoff spot, while Paige Forry (1-0) got the win in a complete game shutout, striking out six and giving up seven hits and no walks.
