COLUMBUS, Ga. -- LeTourneau softball rallied to take game two against Chicago after falling in game one to Pacific Lutheran during their second day at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus on Saturday.
The YellowJackets are now 6-6 on the campaign, while the Lutes improve to 2-1 and the Maroons fall to 0-4.
GAME TWO: LeTourneau 5, Chicago 3
Behind
Kensie Baldwin's complete game (W, 1-1), in which she struck out one and scattered seven hits and two runs, LeTourneau marched their way to a victory against Chicago.
The YellowJackets never trailed in the game, and manufactured runs in whatever ways they could, showing their ability to win in a variety of ways.
After
Maddie Flanery scored on a wild pitch and
Jaci Taylor's RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the first, the Maroons scratched a run across in the bottom of the inning to pull within one.
The second inning would be the ultimate dagger, however, as
Kylie Grisham drove in two on a double and Taylor brought in her second RBI of the day on a single.
From there, it was all Baldwin, as she escaped a jam in the seventh with the tying run at second base to win it.
Flanery collected three hits in the game, while Grisham,
Jenna Rosson, and
Rylie Shipp added a pair of hits apiece to help the offense.
Nicole Wong (0-1) got the loss for Chicago, while Matilda Nelson and Kate Bannister drove in the two Maroon runs.
GAME ONE: Pacific Lutheran 16, LeTourneau 9
In a high-scoring game, the YellowJackets fell short in their first game of day two ath the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
Paige Wilson (1-1) got the win for Pacific Lutheran, while
Laney Taylor (2-3) got the loss for LeTourneau.
After trailing early, 4-1, the YellowJackets would mount a response with a four-run second inning to take a brief 5-4 lead. Rosson's two-RBI double would be the then go-ahead hit.
However, the Lutes would score eight unanswered runs to put the game on ice.
LeTourneau did see some excellent performances from their hitters, however, with Rosson (2-for-5, three RBIs), Flanery (2-for-5, RBI, two runs scored), Taylor (2-for-4, three RBIs), and
Maddi Smith (3-for-4, two runs scored) igniting plenty of offense.
Syan Yamamoto led the offensive charge for Pacific Lutheran, going 4-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, while Zoe Smithson (3-for-4, three RBIs, three runs scored) and Brooke Tilson (3-for-5, four RBIs) added the run production.
