MARSHALL, Texas -- Top-seeded, and nationally-ranked, East Texas Baptist was too much for the LeTourneau women's basketball team as the host Tigers defeated the YellowJackets, 79-56, in an ASC Tournament semifinal on Friday night in Marshall.
LeTourneau ends the year 9-18 overall and advanced to the semifinal round of the ASC Tournament for the first time since 2016.
ETBU (22-4) advances to the championship game on Saturday against No. 3 seed Hardin-Simmons at 6 p.m.
Sallie Moser had nine points to lead LeTourneau scorers, while
Kylie Weeks and
Makenzie Covey had eight points each.
Mariana Espinosa added seven points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Future Asevedo added five points and four rebounds and
Brooklyn Iman had six points and six rebounds.
Sara Savage collected three steals with her five points and two assists.
The YellowJackets, playing ETBU on its home floor for the second time in eight days, got off to a cold start as the hosts took a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. ETBU extended the margin to 45-19 at the half.
LeTourneau outscored ETBU over the final two periods.
The YellowJackets made 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the field.
ETBU got 13 points from Payton Hicks and 10 from Madison Hurta in the win. The Tigers shot 44.1 percent (30-of-68) from the field.
All 10 available players saw action for LeTourneau.
Robbi Martinez hit two 3-pointers, while
Norah White went 1-of-2 from the field and
LaTerra Satcher added four rebounds.Â
