Iman's Career-High Leads Women's Hoops over Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Brooklyn Iman scored a career-high 17 points off the bench and the LeTourneau women's basketball team completed a regular season sweep of Howard Payne with a 68-53 win on Saturday in ASC action.

The win for LeTourneau (8-14, 2-4 ASC) ensures the YellowJackets a top-four seed in the ASC Tournament.

Iman came off the bench and went 7-of-13 from the field for a career-best 17 points to go with six rebounds and two steals. Future Asevedo added 14 points, including a 10-of-14 effort at the free throw line, while Makenzie Covey added 10 points with five rebounds.

Mariana Espinosa nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

LeTourneau raced out to an eight-point lead (22-14) at the end of the first quarter as the YellowJackets made 53.9 percent (7-of-13) from the field in the period. LeTourneau ended the quarter on a 12-3 run as Espinosa converted a conventional three-point play in the final seconds.

The YellowJackets extended the margin to double-digits early in the second by scoring the first eight points to grab a 30-14 lead after an Espinosa bucket with 6:53 left. Over a seven-minute stretch from the end of the first through the first minutes of the second, LeTourneau outscored Howard Payne 20-3.

LeTourneau took a 40-27 lead into halftime and never relinquished it in the second half.

Howard Payne (4-19, 0-6) got within seven one time, but never threatened to take over the game as LeTourneau cruised to the road win.

LeTourneau finished the day shooting 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the floor and 21-of-27 from the foul line. The YellowJackets held a 26-12 advantage in points in the paint, thanks in part to Iman and Covey's efforts.

LeTourneau also held a 44-33 edge on the glass. Sara Savage grabbed nine rebounds to go with Espinosa's nine to lead the way.

Howard Payne got 13 points from Kiana Henning in the loss. The hosts made only 27.3 percent (15-of-55) from the field.
