HOUSTON, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's tennis team dropped its season opener on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to St. Thomas in Houston.
It was the season opener for both LeTourneau (0-1) and St. Thomas (1-0).
St. Thomas took all three flights in doubles play to gain the doubles point. NCAA Division III scoring rules are changing and doubles are now worth one team point for the team that wins at least two of the three matches.
Isa Casso and
Maddie Nichol secured wins in singles play for the YellowJackets.
Casso took down Ella Mullins at the No. 1 flight with a 6-1, 7-5 victory. Nichol claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nataly Velasco at No. 4 to keep LeTourneau in the match.
The other four flights in singles were close, but all went the way of the host Celts.
Chloe Tesser fell in three sets at the No. 5 spot to Aimee Tran.
Emma Boulanger,
Elizabeth Moreau and
Emmy Phillips all had tight contests in their defeats.
