LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau baseball scored 10 runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a 15-9 win over Occidental on Tuesday afternoon.
Frank Maestri (1-0) earned his first career win, striking out three men over two innings. The YellowJackets also had back-to-back-to-back homers in that electric fifth inning, the first off the bat of
Luke Land, and then
Dane Jones and
Xander Nabors added two solo shots.
The scoring began with
Hayden Norris and
Isaac Price driving in a pair of runs via a walk and a hit by pitch, respectively. Then, the Tigers answered with three runs in the top of the second inning.
The electric factory then began whirring.
The fifth inning scoring began with a balk bringing in
Dane Jones to tie the game. Then,
Jack Kale doubled home Nabors and
Brice Cagle drove in two runs on a single.Â
The homer party started after that, with Land's towering grand slam to right field clearing the scoreboard. Jones hit his homer several feet to the right of the foul pole in left, and then Nabors' homer cleared the center field wall, giving LeTourneau a trio of consecutive homers to each of the outfield spots.
That would be all the YellowJackets would need. Cagle did add a pair of RBIs on another single to give him a four-RBI day, and Norris drew a trio fo walks.
Clayton Holt threw a scoreless ninth with a pair of strikeouts to end the game.Â
Tigers right fielder Jeffery Cambra had three hits, including a grand slam, driving in five RBIs. Dylan Fenelli (1-1) got the loss for Occidental.
