No. 1 Wisconsin-Whitewater Pulls Away Late from Baseball

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Facing the top-ranked team in Division III, the LeTourneau baseball team fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater, 11-1, in the third game of the YellowJackets' Florida road trip.

The YellowJackets move to 6-9 on the year, while the Warhawks remain undefeated at 8-0.

The afternoon game, played at Blue Wahoos Stadium, was a fairly tame pitchers' duel through four innings, as Wisconsin-Whitewater led 3-1, before a six-run bottom of the sixth broke open the game.

LeTourneau struck first in the top of the third, as Luke Land roped a double down the right field line bringing in Xander Nabors for the lone YellowJacket run of the afternoon. The Warhawks answered in the bottom half with a run of their own, followed by a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth giving the top-ranked Warhawks a lead they would not lose.

Austin Wiederhold hit a leadoff ground-rule double to start the affair, extending his reached base streak to 14. Six YellowJackets found their way to the hit column, all at one a piece: Nabors, Dane Jones, and Zach Zarko, as well as doubles from Wiederhold, Land, and Isaac Price

Ryan Brewer (0-2) picked up the loss and struck out one in his five-inning start. The YellowJackets used three arms out of the bullpen in Will Podsednik, Camden Miller, and Frank Maestri.

Wisconsin-Whitewater was led offensively by Eli Frank, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Andy Thies also collected a pair of hits, while Adam Cootway hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Max Husebose (1-0) picked up the pitching win for the Warhawks, striking out eight in five innings of work. Ben Lee pitched a two-inning save.
