Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga. -- LeTourneau softball finished their trip to the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a split, defeating Piedmont, 6-2, but falling to No. 18 Pfeiffer, 11-5.
GAME TWO - LeTourneau 6, Piedmont 2
Leighton Landreth homered to power the YellowJackets to a 6-2 win over Piedmont on Sunday afternoon.
Landreth went 2-for-4 during the game with a single and a homer, her first of the season, while
Alexa Neilon went 1-for-3 with a double.Â
After falling behind 2-0 early, Neilon's double in the third inning cut it to one, and then Landreth's two-run shot in the fourth made it 3-2 YellowJackets, a lead they would not give up.Â
LeTourneau tacked on the finishing touches in the sixth inning, as a quartet of singles from
Lexi Dodson,
Rylie Shipp,
Maddie Flanery, and
Kylie Grisham brought home the final runs.
GAME ONE - No. 18 Pfeiffer 11, LeTourneau 5
The YellowJackets fell behind early and could not recover, falling to No. 18 Pfeiffer, 11-5.
After Pfeiffer had established a 5-0 lead,
Maddi Smith attempted to ignite a comeback, belting her third homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning.Â
Another three runs by the Falcons, however, would push their lead higher, but
Jaci Taylor would punch back with a three-run tater that put the score at 8-5 Falcons at the end of the fifth inning.
That would be the final runs the YellowJackets would score, as Pfeiffer had just enough offense and pitching to hold off any further rallies.
