Softball Upended By Comets

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau softball was upended in a doubleheader by UT Dallas on Saturday, falling 5-1 in game one and 10-0 in a run-rule shortened game two.

GAME ONE: UT Dallas 5, LeTourneau 1

The YellowJackets could not overcome an early deficit and fell in game one, 5-1.

Laney Taylor (2-6) threw five strong innings and struck out five. Paiton Altmiller fired the final two innings and surrendered just one run, striking out one. Landreth, Kylie Grisham and Maddi Smith recorded hits for LeTourneau.

After the Comets assembled a 5-0 lead through five and a half innings, LeTourneau got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on a Leighton Landreth RBI groundout. They could not score any further runs, however, as a lineout ended the frame.

The YellowJackets got a leadoff runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but a double play prevented them from getting the tying run to the dish.

Claire Pollack and Cadence Hernandez had three hits each for UT Dallas, Allison Koch (3-2) got the win via a complete game, allowing the one run on three hits, collecting three strikeouts.

GAME TWO: UT Dallas 10, LeTourneau 0

The offense could not get going for the YellowJackets as they dropped game two, 10-0, in five innings.

The Comets jumped ahead early and then leaned on their ace, Madelyn Denn (6-3), who threw five scoreless innings and gave up four hits.

LeTourneau did get hits from Jaci Taylor, Raina Doggett, Jenna Rosson and Kirstin Ferguson, but they were scattered over four different innings.

Ferguson (3-5) got the loss for the YellowJackets, and Kensie Baldwin threw 2.2 innings of relief, giving up one earned run.

UT Dallas catcher Avery Martin had a pair of hits, including a two-run homer. Cadence Hernandez also drove in four runs on two hits for the Comets.
