SHREVEPORT, La. --
Maddie Flanery swiped her 100th career base, but LeTourneau softball's comeback effort came up just short as they fell to Centenary's Ladies, 6-1 and 6-4.
Flanery, the junior outfielder from Tyler, Texas, already holds the program record for steals, but became the first YellowJacket to reach 100 career steals, a major accomplishment which showcases her speed and baserunning prowess.
The losses drop LeTourneau to 8-14 on the campaign, while Centenary jumps to 11-11.
GAME ONE: Centenary 6, LeTourneau 1
LeTourneau took an early lead, but could not hold on as they fell, 6-1, in game one.Â
Jenna Rosson drove in the first run of the game on a single down the line, giving the YellowJackets the early first inning lead.Â
That lead would hold until the third inning, when the Ladies used a homer and an RBI single to go back in front, 3-1.Â
LeTourneau would not get closer than that, as Centenary added three more runs in the latter innings to take the win.
Laney Taylor (2-7) was assigned the loss, while Anna Scarbrock (5-4) got the win.
GAME TWO: Centenary 6, LeTourneau 4
The YellowJackets valiantly attempted to overcome a 6-0 deficit in the seventh inning, but came up two runs short in a 6-4 loss.Â
The winning run came to the plate with two outs in the inning, but a sharp line out off the bat of
Raina Doggett unfortunately did not find the grass.
Lilly Longoria and
Alexa Neilon drove in two of the four runs in that seventh inning, and Flanery's 100th steal helped bring home
Rylie Shipp for a run as well.
Kirstin Ferguson (3-6) got the loss for LeTourneau, while Emma Shepherd (4-3) got the win. The YellowJackets did get three one-run frames in relief from
Hannah Decker and
Kensie Baldwin to give the offense the chance for the near comeback.Â
Catherine Stokes collected four hits for the Ladies in the two games, while Abby Touchet notched three hits on the day, including the homer.
