LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's tennis upended Whitworth, 4-3, on Monday evening behind some stellar tiebreak wins.
The win improved the YellowJackets' record to 6-8, while Whitworth falls to 3-9.
After falling in doubles, LeTourneau's group refocused and prepared for battle against a difficult lineup of Pirates.
The battle was won.Â
No. 1 singles man
Zach Farris came back from a 4-0 deficit in the tiebreak, taking 10 of the next 12 points to take the 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 win over Matthew Morrison to give the YellowJackets their first point.
Andrew Reiman followed suit at No. 2 singles, taking a 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 win over Ryan Ashley.Â
At the No. 3 spot,
Fernando Vazquez had a more difficult comeback to muster, falling behind by a set early. However, he rallied to defeat Matthew Froslan, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8, coming up with the key points when it mattered most.
Needing one more point and with three singles matches left to play, all it took was one winner.
Diego Maldonado was that winner, winning 6-2, 6-3 against Colby Cinqmars to give LeTourneau the clinching decider.
In the other singles results,
Liam Wedge fell 6-3, 6-2 to Matthew Hossack in the No. 4 slot and
Timothy Black was upended 6-3, 6-0 by Landon Labrie.Â
The YellowJackets' doubles win came in the No. 2 slot, with Reiman and Maldonado beating Froslan and Lance Dunn, 6-3.Â
