Men's Tennis Falls to UTD on Senior Day

LONGVIEW, Texas -- On Senior Day, the LeTourneau men's tennis team battled a strong UT Dallas squad before falling, 5-2, at the Davis Tennis Complex.

LeTourneau (6-9) honored its lone men's senior, Liam Wedge, before the match. Wedge is a two-year YellowJacket after transferring in and has played in a career-high 13 matches this season.

When play started, the YellowJackets hung tough with the Comets (3-8).

Zach Farris and Fernando Vazquez battled at the top doubles spot before falling to the Comets' Benjamin Dubois and Travis Rafferty in a tiebreak, 7-6(3). Andrew Reiman and Diego Maldonado also played well at the No. 2 flight against Girithanan D and Eddy Shteyn, but fell 6-4.

LeTourneau's two points came at the No. 5 and No. 6 flights in singles play. Maldonado defeated Harshom Gupta by a 6-3, 6-4 final at No. 5. Timothy Black was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at the No. 6 flight.

Farris fell to Rafferty at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3. Reiman took Dubois to three sets at the No. 2 flight before falling 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Vazquez also had a tough battle at No. 3 in his 6-4, 6-4 loss to Shteyn. Wedge was defeated at No. 4 by Matheus Zanellato 6-1, 6-1.

It was the first time LeTourneau had lost at home this season.
