Men's Tennis Blanks John Carroll in Hilton Head Opener

HILTON HEAD, S.C. --  The LeTourneau men's tennis team opened is spring break trip to Hilton Head in style with a 7-0 win over John Carroll on Friday afternoon in the PTR Spring Break Fest.

The win for LeTourneau (2-4) snapped a three-match losing streak.

The YellowJackets rolled through the Blue Streaks (1-5) in doubles play to take the point.

Zach Farris and Fernando Vazquez got back in the win column with a 6-1 win over Anthony Markello and Dylan Westmeyer at the top flight. Diego Maldonado and Andrew Reiman were 6-2 winners over Griffin Millspaugh and Luis Wentz at No. 2, while Timothy Black and Brayden Money earned a 6-2 win over Jack Sigler and Phillip Gorun at No. 3.

Reiman gave LeTourneau a 2-0 match lead in singles with his 6-2, 6-2 win over Westmeyer at the No. 2 flight. Vazquez then dispatched Gorun 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 to get the YellowJackets within one point of a clinch.

The clinching win came at the top flight with Farris outlasting Markello in three sets. Farris won the first set 6-1 before dropping a close second 4-6 and rebounding for a 10-8 win in the deciding set to take the win and the match.

Liam Wedge and Maldonado also earned three-set wins. Wedge took down Millspaugh 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 while Maldonado was a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 winner over Wentz.

Black closed the match and completed the sweep with his 7-5, 6-4 win over Sigler at the No. 6 spot.

LeTourneau takes on Penn State Behrend (11 a.m. CST) and Gordon (4:30 p.m. CST) on Saturday in Hilton Head.
