LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau softball team lose in back-to-back nail-biters against No.1 ranked East Texas Baptist. The final scores to these Tuesday night thrillers inside the Joyce Family Athletic Village were 1-0 and 3-2.
The losses moves LeTourneau to 12-22 (4-8 ASC), while the visiting Tigers move to 30-2 (8-0 ASC).
GAME ONE: East Texas Baptist 1, LeTourneau 0
To open the doubleheader both pitchers put on a show keeping the offenses off the board until extra-innings where the Tigers were able to add a run in the eighth inning.
Kirstin Ferguson (4-11) made the start in the circle for the YellowJackets pitching all eight innings, striking out three, and allowing just one run. Despite this superb performance Ferguson was handed the loss.
The YellowJackets best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the seventh inning. This scoring chance came after a
Jenna Rosson single, who was then pinch run for by
Alexa Neilon. Ferguson followed this up with a double, but ultimately the Jackets were unable to scratch a run across.
Jenna Carter, Rosson, Ferguson,
Kylie Grisham, and
Maddi Smith all tallied hits in the contest.
Avery Holland was awarded the win for the Tigers improving her record to 9-0.
GAME TWO: East Texas Baptist 3, LeTourneau 2
The second game matched the intensity of the first with another pitching showcase, from both pitchers.
Laney Taylor (4-11) completed all seven innings, striking out three, and only allowing one earned run.
After not scoring a game one the YellowJackets came out swinging propelling them to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth frame. These runs came off of back-to-back RBI singles from Rosson, and Taylor.
Unfortunately the lead would be short lived as ETBU answered in the next half inning scoring quickly scoring a pair of runs to tie the game. A Tristian Maddox home run in the top of the seventh inning would be the dagger as it gave ETBU the one run lead that would be the difference.
Laney Taylor, Grisham, and
Jaci Taylor all notched base hits.
Payton Bauer, and Rosson posted multi-hit games.
Hannah Benavides earned the win for ETBU improving her record to 6-1.
