MARSHALL, Texas -- The LeTourneau baseball team hit four home runs, but East Texas Baptist broke a tie game with a four-run sixth inning to pull way for a 14-9 victory over the YellowJackets in the series finale on Friday afternoon.
LeTourneau (19-16, 11-5 ASC) got home runs from
Xander Nabors,
Luke Land,
Hayden Norris, and
Dane Jones in the loss.
Nabors opened the scoring with a solo shot just over the left field wall in the first inning. The home run was Nabors' fourth of the season.
After ETBU (23-11, 10-2 ASC) tied the game in its half of the first inning, LeTourneau answered with a four-run third inning. Land blasted a three-run homer to right-center field, his sixth of the season, to put the YellowJackets ahead 4-1.
Norris followed later in the inning with a solo shot to extend the lead to 5-1, his third long ball of the year.
ETBU responded with four runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two-run homer from Joaquin Costa, to make it 5-5. In the sixth, the Tigers scored four more runs to take the lead for good.
LeTourneau got three runs back in the eighth to trim the deficit to 10-8. Norris produced an RBI single and
Zach Baker followed with a two-run double to keep the YellowJackets within striking distance.
ETBU tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Jones hit his 15th home run of the season, a solo blast to left field, in the ninth inning. It was Jones' 56th career home run.
Ryan Brewer made the start and went 2.1 innings with two strikeouts for LeTourneau.
Cruz Cox (0-2) picked up the loss in relief.
Nabors finished 3-for-5 while Land was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Norris and
Isaac Price also had two hits in the loss.
Landry Powell (1-0) notched the win in relief for the Tigers as he tossed 4.1 innings. ETBU hit four home runs and Ben Lea went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a homer.
