BELTON, Texas -- The No. 4 seeded LeTourneau women's tennis team advanced past Howard Payne, 4-0, in the ASC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon in Belton.
LeTourneau (8-11) will play No. 1 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. It is the second straight season the YellowJackets have made the semifinal round.
LeTourneau took the doubles point in dramatic fashion.
Kylie Weeks and
Chloe Tesser earned a 6-3 win over
Caroline Marshall and Kendra Werlein at the No. 3 spot. Howard Payne took the top flight and the deciding point came down to the No. 2 flight.
At the No. 2 spot,
Emma Boulanger and
Maddie Nichol trailed 5-3 to Nina Delafuente and Mikayla Hernandez. The YellowJacket duo rallied back and took the contest in a tiebreak 7-6(1) to get the YellowJackets the point and a 1-0 match lead.
In singles, LeTourneau coasted to wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 to take a 3-0 lead. Tesser took a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hernandez at the No. 6 flight before Weeks defeated Werlein 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
Nichol clinched the match for LeTourneau with her 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 flight over Marshall.
LeTourneau led each of the top three flights when play concluded.
Isa Casso took the first set 6-4 over Hannah Lightner at the No. 1 flight, while
Elizabeth Moreau was up 7-5, 2-1 on Victoria Ramos at the No. 2 spot. Boulanger was also ahead of Delafuente at the No. 3 flight 6-3, 4-3.
