MARSHALL, Texas -- Call it a comeback.
The No. 4 seeded LeTourneau softball team rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh to take down No. 3 seeded Mary Hardin-Baylor, 2-1, in an ASC Tournament elimination game on Friday afternoon in Marshall.
The win moves LeTourneau (17-26) to Friday night's elimination game against either East Texas Baptist or Hardin-Simmons at 6 p.m.
Shut out for the first six innings, LeTourneau kept its season alive with two runs in the seventh.
Leighton Landreth led off the inning with a double and
Payton Bauer followed with a pinch-hit single to put runners at the corners with nobody out.
Alexa Neilon followed and hit a grounder to shortstop, Landreth tried to score but the UMHB catcher was called for obstruction allowing Landreth's run to count.
Maddi Smith followed with a single down the left field line that plated Bauer with the go-ahead run.
Laney Taylor worked around a one-out error in the seventh to shut the door and complete the win.
It was the second straight year in the ASC Tournament that LeTourneau had a comeback win to eliminate UMHB.Â
Taylor (8-12) tossed her second straight complete-game in the tournament. The senior allowed just four hits and one run across her seven innings.
Smith finished 2-for-3 with an RBI while
Maddie Flanery, Landreth, Bauer, and
Jenna Carter all had hits.
Shorey Nguyen had an RBI single in the third inning that gave UMHB a 1-0 lead. Chloee Miller (5-5) took the loss in the circle as she allowed one earned run in six-plus innings.
