Women's Soccer Ties Program Record With Shutout Win Over LaGrange

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Record books, you have company.

Behind four goals and continued stellar defense, LeTourneau women's soccer steamrolled their way to a 4-0 win over the visiting LaGrange Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

The shutout was the program-record-tying fifth consecutive shutout for the YellowJackets (4-0-1), whose second half surge was more than enough to overcome the Panthers (1-4-1).

The match ran very similarly to the last two home matches for LeTourneau, as Lana Whiteman gave the Jackets another early first half advantage with her perfectly placed left-footed shot into the net in the seventh minute.

The defense battled the heat and the aggressive LaGrange offense the rest of the half, but behind keeper Kinsey Fulks' two stops, the defense held their ground to keep it a 1-0 match at the break.

Then it was the offense's turn.

In the 54th minute, Chanel Kemball-Cook would score her fifth goal of the campaign to make it 2-0, and then Whiteman would add her second goal of the match and third of the season in the 62nd minute to make it a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Shelby Smith would tack on the final touch with her second goal of the season (65') off a penalty kick rebound to put the match away.

Another combined defensive effort from Sophia Merjil, Jaye Dugan, Clarissa Martinez, and Avery Gortney on the back line with Michelle Olivas, Zoe Harbison, Whiteman and Brandy Moran at midfield stifled the remaining attacks from LaGrange.

Fulks made a total of five saves in the match, extending her career-opening shutout streak to five matches. Allison McClanahan, Reagan Parks, Natalie Alvarado, Kathy Villareal, and Darby Perry assisted offensively, maintaining possession in the Panthers' zone during the second half to preserve the shutout.

Charlee Hunt notched two shots on goal to lead the Panthers in that category, while keeper Carsen Makuch gathered in eight saves.
