Women's Soccer Sets New Program Record, But Falls at Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas -- LeTourneau women's soccer set a new program record with 535:31 of consecutive scoreless soccer, but Howard Payne notched two late goals to hand the YellowJackets the defeat in Brownwood on Tuesday evening.

The 535:31 surpassed the previous record set from Sept. 7-28 of 2023 of 510:22, as 2025 LeTourneau accomplished it in a similar seven-match stretch, beginning with the final 2:50 of time at the end of the 2024 season.

Despite another valiant effort from Kinsey Fulks, who made 11 saves in the match, the YellowJackets (4-1-1) could not hold off the aggressive Howard Payne (5-2-0) offense in the late stages.

Reigning SCAC Offensive Player of the Week Chanel Kemball-Cook attempted to get LeTourneau on the board first with her shot on goal in the 12th minute, but Yellow Jacket keeper Landry Combs made a great stop to keep the match scoreless.

Fulks would make three saves of her own in the first half as the teams stayed tied at zero going into the break.

Four more Howard Payne shots ensued in the first 15:50 of the second half, with Fulks stopping the three headed towards the net. She would add another four stops in another stretch of 4:42 midway through the second half as well to keep it all knotted up.

At the 82:41 mark, Howard Payne finally broke through, with Abbie Wetzel scoring the first goal of the match, and Brenna Douthit would tack on the second goal (85') a short time later to put the match out of reach.

Shelby Smith did add one last gasp with a shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the defense was able to keep it out of net as the match concluded.

Smith, Kemball-Cook, and Sarah Wyatt recorded the three shots on goal for LeTourneau, while Brandy Moran, Clarissa Martinez, Michelle Olivas, and Jaye Dugan played all 90 minutes.
