Volleyball Downs Sewanee 3-1, Picks Up Third Straight Victory

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Volleyball kept things rolling to kick of their time at the Coca-Cola Invitational, defeating Sewanee 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18) and picking up a third straight victory.

In LeTourneau's second trip to Georgia in as many weeks, the YellowJackets looked to avoid be tripped up during the road trip.

Four YellowJackets notched double-doubles in Friday's contest, headlined by Maddy Hirneise and Aubree McCann, who both picked up their first in a YellowJacket uniform.

Hirneise had 24 digs to accompany 10 assists, her first career double-digit mark in the category. McCann posted her best match of the season, with 18 kills (.244) and 12 digs.

Both setters once again shined for LeTourneau, with Hailee Perry dishing 20 assists and 12 digs, and Emily Mullin having 15 dimes and 14 digs.

Nora Lockhart dropped her third straight nine-kill performance and Emma Smith continued her outstanding efficiency in the attacking department, serving 12 kills on a .346 hitting percentage.

LeTourneau (3-1) took early control of the match, opening the first set with a 5-0 run and, while the set was back-and-forth, they never relinquished the set lead. The YellowJackets would take the set 25-21, highlighted by six kills from Lockhart.

The second set told a different story, as it was a set full of runs. Sewanee would open with a 5-0 lead, but LeTourneau answered fighting back to a 13-13 knot. The YellowJackets would then hand the Tigers (2-2) a seven point run, and eventually taking a two-set lead.

Sewanee would not retire silently though, avoiding the sweep and taking the third set 25-19.

However, after LeTourneau took a slight early lead in the fourth, at the 12-9 mark, the Jackets would rattle off a 10-3 run. This lead was too much for the Tigers to overcome, and LeTourneau would clinch the match 25-18.

Sewanee would be led by Suna Murkler in both kills with 10, and digs with 21.
