Defensive Masterclass Excels Men's Hoops Past Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- It was another defensive masterclass for the LeTourneau men's basketball team as the YellowJackets defeated Austin College 72-53 inside Hughey Gym on Saturday evening.

After holding Dallas to just 55 points a night ago, this weekend marked the lowest two point totals LeTourneau (10-5, 5-1 SCAC) has allowed in a game since 2016.

LeTourneau was led on the offensive end by Teigan Edwards, who recorded a game-high 23 points, including four 3-pointers, along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Logan Brinkoeter was everywhere on the floor for the YellowJackets, registering 15 points, 10 boards, a career-high five steals, and a pair of blocks.

LeTourneau came out firing on all cylinders, opening up the game on an 11-0 run, going 5-for-5 from the floor and forcing four turnovers in the 4:16 stretch.

Austin College (3-12, 0-6 SCAC) chipped away after netting four straight at the charity stripe, but the lead was quickly extended back to double-figures when Branson Lynn hit his first of two triples.

The YellowJackets maintained firm control for the remainder of the first half, holding a 38-24 lead at the break.

The two would trade blows to open up the second half as Edwards rattled in a layup, followed by Ryan Dupre knocking down a triple for the Roos.

Austin College would start to heat up over the next 5:37, though, running off a 17-5 stretch, and cutting the lead to 49-46.

However, this comeback just ignited a fire under the YellowJackets.

Max Frels got a layup to fall following a timeout, which was followed by a jumper from Edwards. Jackson Mayes poured in five straight, and just like that, the lead was back to 12, and would not fall below double-digits again.

Kidus Getenet led Austin College in scoring with 12 points along with seven rebounds.
