Brinkoeter's Career Night Not Enough for Men's Hoops

KERRVILLE, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball fell on the road Friday night, 93-88, to the Schreiner Mountaineers inside Stephens Family Arena.

Logan Brinkoeter had a night for the YellowJackets (7-5, 2-1 SCAC), dropping a career-high 24 points -- on 8-of-11 shooting -- to accompany 10 boards. This line extends the back-to-back SCAC Defensive Player of the Week's double-double streak to five straight contests, and his seventh on the season.

Cooper Smith came through in every aspect for LeTourneau off the bench, netting 20 points (5-of-7 from the field), eight rebounds, and five assists. The sophomore also walked away with a pair of steals, both of which led to baskets on the other end for the YellowJackets. Jackson Mayes followed with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Despite the offensive effort, LeTourneau's defense couldn't hold up in the second half. The Mountaineers (6-7, 3-0 SCAC) scored 51 points on 17-of-36 shooting following halftime.

LeTourneau's contributions on the offensive end were enough to keep it a tight-knit contest for the majority of the night. Despite falling down 10 with 7:56 remaining, the YellowJackets were able to chip away at the lead. Mayes and Smith made good on trips to the charity stripe, and the two connected for a Mayes shot inside to cap a 7-0 run and cut the lead to three with 6:34 remaining.

However, the Mountaineers would immediately follow with an 8-0 run of their own, extending the lead back to 11 in just 50 seconds. LeTourneau would give its best efforts down the stretch, shooting 6-for-7 over the final 3:13, but the Mountaineers would reply with efficiency on their own end, not relinquishing the lead.

Schreiner had four men in double figures, with their leading scorer being Dylan Snow with 19 points.
