LONGVIEW, Texas – The LeTourneau volleyball team picked up a crucial conference win over the Austin College Kangaroos on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-21) result. Â
The victory moves the YellowJackets into a tie for second place in the SCAC Blue Division.Â
LeTourneau (7-10, 4-2 SCAC) had its best offensive output of the season, hitting .292 and committing a season-low 10 errors. Elizabeth Corbitt led the charge with 16 kills on a hitting percentage of .400, while also recording four blocks. Kassidy Meyer also put together a nice game, hitting .296 with eight kills. Â
Emily Mullin was everywhere for the Jackets as she put together season-highs in both assists (21) and digs (13). Rebekah Dragoo (18 digs) and Maddy Hirneise (13 digs) aided Mullin in holding down the backline.Â
LeTourneau had an electric start to the match, scoring the first six points, driven by three kills from Corbitt. The Roos would slowly climb back into the set, cutting the YellowJacket lead to 22-20, but LeTourneau stood its ground, scoring three consecutive points to take the opening set 25-20.Â
Hirneise opened the second-set serving and didn't look back.Â
The Jackets rattled off the first eleven points of the set to blow the match wide open. Leading 18-7 later in the set, LeTourneau would go on a 7-1 run to put itself one set away from winning the match.Â
LeTourneau had their third consecutive fast start, as it took an emphatic 20-9 lead. However, Austin College (13-8, 4-2 SCAC) would not go down without a fight, as it used an 11-0 run of their own to pull even. Â
A Corbitt kill put LeTourneau back in front before Austin College appeared to tie the game after a Hailee Perry attack was called out. However, Coach Alison Williams challenged the play, and it was overturned, giving the Jackets a crucial two-point lead. Kylee Marksberry eventually put the match away as her fifth kill of the day clinched the sweep for LeTourneau.Â
Laney Kovacs led the Roos with 14 digs and six aces.Â
