SUWANEE, Ga. -- Following a standout performance at the Golfweek October Classic, LeTourneau men's golf senior Trey Cates was named the SCAC Golfer of the week, announced the league on Wednesday.

Cates is the third YellowJacket to earn conference weekly honors this year (Brody Holmlund, Sept. 16; Landon Druyvesteyn, Sept. 23). It is the second career golfer of the week award for Cates.

A senior from Portland, Texas, Cates led the way for LeTourneau and was near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament before finishing with a 1-under, 212 (68-70-74) and tied for sixth. Cates had a four-birdie round on Sunday as he carded a 3-under, 68 before shooting a 1-under, 70 on Monday with one eagle and one birdie. He held the lead for much of the final round on Tuesday in a tightly-packed leaderboard before finishing in a tie for sixth with Rhodes' Parker Tenent.

It was Cates' third top-10 finish of the year and the 12th of his career.

His play helped LeTourneau to a fifth-place finish at the Golfweek October Classic -- out of 25 teams and nine of those ranked inside the Scoreboard/Clippd Top 25. With the result, LeTourneau jumped 17 spots to No. 30 in the current Scoreboard/Clippd national rankings (Oct. 21).

Cates is third on the team in scoring average at 73.50 across 12 rounds with three top-10 finishes and three rounds of par or better scoring.

LeTourneau will return to action in the spring semester.
