Volleyball Battles Texas Lutheran at SCAC Crossover

SHERMAN, Texas – The LeTourneau volleyball team fell to the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (15-5, 7-0 SCAC) in three highly competitive sets in a SCAC crossover match in Sherman on Friday night.

LeTourneau (9-12, 5-4 SCAC) hung tight with the Bulldogs, who currently sit undefeated in conference play, before ultimately being swept 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20).

Rebekah Dragoo put on a big-time performance, garnering 23 digs (7.7 per set) and helping keep LeTourneau competitive in all three sets.

Offensively, Elizabeth Corbitt led the charge with 10 kills, while Kassidy Meyer and Kylee Marksberry each added six. The YellowJackets got 16 assists from Hailee Perry, while Gabby Ovalle recorded 10 assists and seven digs.

The first-set stayed tight, with neither team leading by more than three points throughout its entirety. Three early kills from Claire Bezanilla helped give LeTourneau a 15-14 lead at the technical timeout, before Texas Lutheran scored seven of the next ten to give itself a 21-18 advantage. The YellowJackets would even the score at 22-22 before the Bulldogs closed it out 25-23.

The second-set also started out tightly knit as Texas Lutheran led 12-10, before going on a 7-0 run to take a nine-point lead. However, LeTourneau continued to fight, going on two separate four-point runs, cutting the Bulldog lead down to three. Texas Lutheran once again slammed the door in the crucial moment, taking the set 25-21.

Trailing 11-5 in the early moments of the third-set, LeTourneau continued to show their fight, coming all the way back to tie the score at 16-16. Once again, Texas Lutheran played their best when it mattered most, scoring five straight points en route to a 25-20 victory.

Andie Lozano-Lomeli led the Bulldogs with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .611.
