SHERMAN, Texas – The LeTourneau volleyball team dropped its road match to Austin College 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-14) on Friday night. In the process, senior Maddy Hirneise recorded her 1,000th dig, making her the tenth player in program history to reach that milestone.Â
Despite the loss, the YellowJackets clinched their spot in the SCAC tournament next weekend, due to Texas Lutheran's win over St. Thomas (TX). LeTourneau (10-14, 6-6 SCAC) will host the conference tournament in Solheim Arena on Nov. 13-14.Â
LeTourneau was led by Nora Lockhart, who had six kills while hitting .857, and Kylee Marksberry, who logged six kills and three blocks. Rebekah Dragoo's 12 digs led LeTourneau defensively. Â
Austin (17-11, 8-4 SCAC) set the tone early, using an early 8-0 run to jump out to a 10-2 lead. LeTourneau came back to cut the deficit to three before Austin pulled away for good, taking the first-set 25-16.Â
LeTourneau got off to a much better start in the second set, as hitting errors from Austin helped give the YellowJackets a 16-12 lead. However, Austin got back into the set, evening the score at 21-21, before winning the last four points to take a two-set lead.Â
The third-set was all Austin, as it took control with a 12-1 run and didn't look back, securing the final set 25-14.Â
Austin College was led by Mia Johnson, who had a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs.Â
