LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team opened conference play with a pair of wins, sweeping the Thursday night doubleheader and clinching the series against Austin College.
Laynie Davis earned a complete-game win in the nightcap, while
Maddie Flanery collected five hits and swiped five bags on the day.
LeTourneau (2-2, 2-0 SCAC) edged out the Roos in both contests, winning 6-5 in game one, and 4-3 in game two.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 6, Austin College 5
The YellowJackets posted six runs on 11 hits in the win, with two-hit games coming from Flanery,
Jenna Carter,
Taylor Gouge, and
Mandy Hoback. Carter and
Kylee Davis drove in two runs apiece in the victory.
Brooke Bubert (1-1) collected three strikeouts through four innings and earned the win, while
Bree Brege (1) twirled a three-inning save, allowing just one run in relief.
After the Roos (0-4, 0-2 SCAC) scored a pair to open the game, LeTourneau would need to make up ground before they ever saw the plate.
That's exactly what happened.
Flanery led off with a single to center and stole her way around to third. Carter would then hit it back where it came from to drive in LeTourneau's first run of the game.
The YellowJackets followed with a five-spot in the bottom of the second, coming off six singles, a hit-by-pitch, and a
Natalie Noriega sacrifice fly. LeTourneau now held a 6-2 lead.
Lauren Trott hit a solo homer in the third, followed by an RBI single by Ashlynn Brothers in the fourth to chip away at the lead for the Roos.
Finally, once the top of the seventh came, Austin opened with a pair of singles, followed by Brege punching out a batter for the first out. The Roos again collected an RBI single, followed by a walk, trailing by just one with bases loaded and one out.
However, Piper Lindlau lined one directly into the diving glove of
Laila LaCapra who, from her knees, doubled up the runner out first to clinch the first win of 2026.
Madi McGowan earned the loss, allowing six earned runs through 1.1 innings.
GAME TWO: LeTourneau 4, Austin College 3
Laynie Davis (1-0) allowed just three runs -- only two of which were earned -- and six hits while punching out five across all seven innings to earn the win.
Flanery went 3-for-3 at the plate, garnered three steals, and drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth to lead the YellowJackets to the victory.Â
Rylie Shipp went 2-for-3 with a double, while
Kylee Davis, Carter, and Gouge gathered RBIs in the win.
Once again, LeTourneau would find themselves down as Austin struck first on an RBI groundout in the second, and adding another off a fourth inning error to lead 2-0.
Kylee Davis would trade places with Shipp at second on a long double to centerfield in the bottom of the fourth, bringing home LeTourneau's first run of the game. Gouge would tie the contest at 2-2 in the fifth with an opposite field line drive, bringing Flanery home.
Noriega led off the sixth with a triple, and Flanery's first-pitch rocket past third base scored her. Carter's sacrifice fly later in the inning would bring in Flanery for the eventual game-winning run, as Austin's one-run seventh wouldn't be enough.
McKinley Hankins (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs through five innings in the circle, while Trott led the bats for the Roos on the day, going 4-for-7 with eight total bases.
