LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau softball couldn't handle the potent offense of Austin College in the series finale, falling 11-4 on Friday afternoon at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
The Roos (1-4, 1-2 SCAC) put up four runs in the second inning, followed by a five-run third to propel them to victory.
Bree Brege (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk through 1.2 innings and collected the loss.
Campbell Marler closed out the final 4.1 innings, allowing two unearned runs in the process.
Rylie Shipp had a day at the plate, going 3-for-4 out of the three-hole, bringing in a pair of runners off a single in the third.Â
Maddie Flanery and
Laila LaCapra managed two-hit games each, while
Taylor Gouge had a pair of RBIs.
LeTourneau (2-3, 2-1 SCAC) struck first when Gouge hit an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first inning, but Austin College answered the next half inning, plating four runs on five hits.
Austin continued to pour it on in the third, plating three runs through seven batters before even recording an out. The Roos made it 9-1 when Tori Fowler hit a two-out two-RBI single up the middle.
The YellowJackets would make an attempt at a comeback, collecting three runs on three hits and an error. Cassidy Cantera (1-0) four shutout innings in relief shutout LeTourneau the remainder of the game, though, only allowing three hits and earning the winning decision.
