LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball steamrolled Hendrix in the final home game of the year, securing the SCAC Blue Division title in the process.
Four seniors --
Jackson Mayes,
Teigan Edwards,
Connor Miller, and
Teigan Edwards -- were honored prior to the 102-62 Saturday night victory in front of a packed Solheim Arena.
Mayes led the way with a game-high 21 points and six rebounds, along with four steals on the defensive end. Miller netted four triples en route to 18 points, four assists, and three steals. Ferrell garnered 11 points. while Edwards provided nine points and seven assists.
LeTourneau (17-6, 11-2 SCAC) started slow out of the gate, trailing 12-9 after an emphatic slam by the Warriors. However, following a timeout, Miller knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to give LeTourneau a lead they would not relinquish.
The YellowJackets would manage a 10-2 run over the next 2:05 to extend that lead, followed by a quiet three-minute scoreless stretch by both sides.Â
Leading 25-16 with 10:30 remaining in the first half, LeTourneau found its groove, rattling off a 23-6 run over the next 5:10. The YellowJackets held a strong 57-39 lead at the break.
The energy stayed just as high following halftime, with another big stretch coming. This time, LeTourneau outscored the Warriors (1-23, 1-13 SCAC) 23-4 to open the half.Â
The 102-61 win marked the third straight 100-plus scoring performance by LeTourneau, the fourth consecutive game holding opponents under 62 points, and the third straight victory by 40-plus.
Taking the Blue Division crown also secures the YellowJackets a bye for the SCAC Championship Tournament (Feb 28-Mar 1).
