ABILENE, Texas -- The bats were alive again, but the LeTourneau softball team could not keep pace with McMurry in a 13-6 loss in the SCAC series finale on Saturday in Abilene.
It was the rubber match between LeTourneau (3-5, 3-3 SCAC) and McMurry (6-6-1, 2-4 SCAC) after the teams split a doubleheader on Friday.
LeTourneau collected 14 hits in the loss, led by three apiece from
Maddie Flanery,Â
Laila LaCapra, and
Brooke Bubert. LeTourneau tallied 36 hits across the three-game series.
However, a six-run second inning for McMurry proved to be too much for LeTourneau to overcome.
Down 6-0 in the third inning, LeTourneau scratched across a run on
Jenna Carter's infield single that plated
Natalie Noriega. McMurry answered in its half of the third with a two-run single from Taylor McCurdy to stretch the margin back to 8-1.
Bubert collected an RBI double in the fourth inning before McMurry scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 12-2.
Facing a run-rule decision, LeTourneau scored four times to keep the game going. Bubert had an RBI single that scored Rylie Ship and Noriega added an RBI single of her own. Flanery worked a bases loaded walk and Carter was hit by a pitch to bring across another run to cut the deficit to 12-6.
Bubert also tossed three innings in relief for LeTourneau and went 3-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate.
Campbell Marler (0-2) made the start and picked up the loss.
Nyema Muhammad collected the win in relief for McMurry. The War Hawks had 14 hits in the win, led by three from McCurdy as she drove in five runs.
