ALLEN, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's tennis team took all three doubles and then won five of the six flights in singles to cruise to a 6-1 victory over Howard Payne to open the spring season on Saturday in Allen.
LeTourneau (1-0) won for a third straight time and the 17th in the last 19 meetings overall against Howard Payne (0-5).
The YellowJackets took care of business in the doubles portion to go ahead 1-0. The No. 1 tandem of
Andrew Reiman and
Fernando Vazquez eased past Noah Baiani and Gabriel Keeney-McCollough by a 6-1 final.
Zach Farris and
Timothy Black were 6-3 winners over Luke Flemming and Riley Harker at No. 2, while
Hayden Harry and
Diego Maldonado won 6-2 over Parker Hoel and Eli Hall at No. 3.
Vazquez gave LeTourneau a 2-0 match lead with his 6-0, 6-0 win over Hall at the No. 3 flight in singles. Farris made quick work of Keeney-McCollough 6-1, 6-2 at the top flight. Reiman then clinched the match with his 6-0, 6-2 win over Harker at the No. 2 spot.
Maldonado won 6-2, 6-1 over Baiani at No. 5 before Harry earned his second win of the day with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Hoel at No. 6.
The season-opening win marks the sixth time in the last seven years LeTourneau has won its first match of the season.
UP NEXT
