Softball Opens Season with Losses at No. 14 Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. -- The LeTourneau softball team opened the 2026 campaign with two losses at No. 14-ranked Belhaven on Saturday in Jackson. Belhaven took game one, 7-3, before walking off with a 5-4 win in the second game.

It was the season opener for both LeTourneau (0-2) and Belhaven (2-0).

GAME ONE: Belhaven 7, LeTourneau 3

Jenna Carter hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, but the deficit was too great for LeTourneau to overcome in a 7-3 loss in Saturday's opener.

Belhaven scored single runs in the first, second, and third innings to build a 3-0 lead. A four-run sixth for the host Blazers put the game out of reach for the YellowJackets.

Carter blasted a three-run shot in the seventh, scoring Maddie Flanery and Laynie Davis. Flanery and Kylee Davis had two hits apiece to lead LeTourneau as the YellowJackets totaled seven in the loss.

Brooke Bubert (0-1) got the loss as she went four innings allowing three runs. Bree Brege tossed the final two innings in relief.

Gracey Harbour (1-0) got the win in the circle as she went three innings of relief with no runs allowed. Belhaven totaled 11 hits in the victory.

GAME TWO: Belhaven 5, LeTourneau 4

LeTourneau tied the game with a run in the seventh, but a Melissa Lopera single down the line plated the winning run for Belhaven in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep, 5-4.

Raina Doggett had a two-run double to score both Carter and Laynie Davis to cap a three-run third inning and give LeTourneau a 3-0 lead.

Belhaven responded and went ahead 4-3 in the fourth. In the seventh, Flanery delivered a double to right field that scored Natalie Noriega with the tying run. In the bottom of the inning, Belhaven loaded the bases and Lopera provided the game-winning hit.

Laynie Davis went four innings allowing one earned run in her start in the circle. Campbell Marler (0-1) got the loss in relief, but only allowed one run in 2.1 innings.
