HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- A tight match throughout, the LeTourneau men's tennis team came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Greenville on Tuesday in Hilton Head.
LeTourneau (5-2) finished its Spring Break trip to South Carolina with a 2-2 record.
Tuesday featured two evenly-matched teams, but it was Greenville (7-4) that held on for the win.
LeTourneau took the doubles point with wins at the top two flights.
Andrew Reiman and
Fernando Vazquez held down the top spot with a 6-3 victory over Greenville's Jade Dynamic and Francisco Trujillo.
Timothy Black and
Zach Farris were also 6-3 winners as the No. 2 tandem defeated Jean Sanabria and Colton Hume.
Both tandems of Reiman/Vazquez and Black/Farris moved to 6-1 on the year with their victories.
Farris outlasted Sanabria at the top flight in singles as he rallied from a first-set loss to win in a tiebreak 2-6, 6-3, 10-3. Reiman had a similar match at the No. 2 flight, but he was defeated by Colton Hulme in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 10-6. The loss was just the first for Reiman in singles play during the spring.
LeTourneau's third point of the match came at the No. 6 spot as
Diego Maldonado took a win by retirement over Kai Gustafson after taking the first set, 6-3, and holding a 1-0 lead in the second.
Greenville finished the win with victories at lines 3-5. Dynamic narrowly won the first set over Vazquez and took the match 7-5, 6-0.
