Ozarks Outlasts Men's Tennis in SCAC Dual

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- In a match that featured four three-set matches and three set tiebreaks, the LeTourneau men's tennis team came up short in a 6-1 loss at Ozarks in SCAC play on Thursday at the Alexander-Boreham Tennis Center.

LeTourneau (5-3, 2-1 SCAC) suffered just its first conference loss of the season. It was the YellowJackets' first match in nine days after returning from a Spring Break trip to Hilton Head.

A back-and-forth match ensued up and down the lineup.

In doubles, LeTourneau's Hayden Harry and Diego Maldonado defeated Ozarks' Ryan Rosalin and Archie Martyn-Smith by a 7-5 final at the No. 3 flight. After Ozarks' top duo of Kento Iwahara and Perry Guidry bested the YellowJackets' Andrew Reiman and Fernando Vazquez, 6-3, at the No. 1 flight, the doubles point came down to the No. 2 spot.

LeTourneau's Timothy Black and Zach Farris battled Zachary Hanson and Sergio Munoz, but it was the Ozarks duo coming out on top in a tiebreak, 7-6(5) to give the host Eagles a 1-0 match lead.

Four of the six singles matches went three sets. LeTourneau's point in the match came at No. 2 as Reiman was able to defeat Haru Satomura in three sets, 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-2.

Farris challenged Iwahara at the top flight, but fell in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 to the Eagles' No. 1 player. At No. 3, Vazquez narrowly fell to Munoz by a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 final. Ozarks also garnered a three-set win at No. 6 with Rosalin defeating Harry 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

Black and Maldonado also played well, but both fell. Black was defeated by Hanson at No. 4 6-3, 6-3. Maldonado lost to Guidry at No. 5 6-2, 7-6(2) as Ozarks improved to 6-5 (3-1 SCAC) on the year.
