LONGVIEW, Texas -- Off to a slow start, the No. 23 LeTourneau men's golf team had a strong second round and moved up to finish second overall at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday.
LeTourneau, ranked No. 23 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Top 25, surged into title contention after the second round on Monday but could not overcome Cal Lutheran for the top spot. The YellowJackets shot a 35-over, 875 (297-281-297) for the tournament to place behind Cal Lutheran's 13-over, 853 (289-281-283) at the par-70 Crossing Creeks Country Club.
Owen Prewitt and
Kaiden Schneider each led the way for the YellowJackets as they both tied for eighth individually at 8-over, 218. Prewitt opened with an even-par, 70, in Monday's first round then followed that with a 5-over, 75, and a 3-over, 73 to end the tournament. He had nine birdies across the three rounds.
Schneider had an 8-over, 78, in the first round before firing a 1-under, 69, in round two and a 1-over, 71 in the final round. The senior had 10 birdies, including five in his round of 69 on Monday.
Daniel Arcocha led the LeTourneau B team at 11-over, 221 (78-69-74) and was in a tie for 16th. Arcocha had five birdies in his round of 69 on Monday and had seven for the tournament.
The B team came in sixth in the 13-team field.Â
Brody Holmlund and
Trey Cates also both recorded tournament scores of 11-over, 221. Holmlund had rounds of 74, 71, and 76 with seven birdies for the tournament while Cates produced rounds of 73, 80, and 68. Cates' 2-under, 68 on Tuesday included four birdies and he was 3-under on the front nine of the course.
Noah Summers also had a round of 68, with his coming in round two on Monday. Summers finished in a tie for 23rd at 14-over, 224 (78-68-78). He had nine birdies for the tournament.
Dylan Bradley finished at 15-over, 225 (74-73-77) and was in a tie for 26th and totaled five birdies in the 54 holes.
Jack Pope was 18-over, 228 (79-69-80), including a second-round of 69 on Monday with four birdies.
Luke Nelson and
Jaxson Green both finished at 233, while
Corbin King was at 234 (81-77-76).
Matthew Elliott (236, 84-75-77),
Dylan Stanley (247, 84-79-84), and
Bertu van Zyl (248, 81-82-85) rounded out the LeTourneau golfers.
Cal Lutheran's Tate Evans posted a 7-under, 203 (68-66-69) to win medalist honors.
