LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau softball split a midweek doublheader against the Millsaps Majors on Tuesday afternoon at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
LeTourneau (4-12) took game one 10-2 after five innings in a run-rule victory, before dropping game two 4-2.
Jenna Carter and
Raina Doggett had four hits apiece between the two games, while
Maddie Flanery posted three hits at the plate to follow.
GAME ONE: LeTourneau 10, Millsaps 2 (5 innings)
The bats were hot to start the doubleheader as LeTourneau posted 10 runs on 15 hits and three Millsaps errors in just five innings to win via run-rule.
Carter went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Doggett hit 3-for-3, scoring twice and bringing home two runners, and
Brooke Bubert went 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
Bree Brege (2-4) picked up the win in the circle, allowing just two runs in four innings in her start. Bubert pitched a perfect fifth inning in relief.Â
The Majors plated two runs on four hits in the second inning to open the scoring on the day. However, LeTourneau expeditiously answered with four runs in the home half of the inning.
The scoring began with Doggett smashing an RBI double to left field, followed by Flanery plating two on a two-out triple to give the YellowJackets a lead they would not relinquish. Carter tacked on one more with a single to centerfield to make it 4-2.
Just one inning later,
Kylee Davis dropped a sacrifice bunt to bring home
Laynie Davis, followed by an RBI single from Doggett. Bubert doubled to add one more, making it 7-2 after three.
After a quiet fourth inning, LeTourneau needed three in the home half of the fifth to bring the run-rule into effect.
They did just that.
After Bubert walked with bases loaded and Carter hit an RBI single up the middle,
Natalie Noriega walked it off, producing the 10th run for LeTourneau, and giving the Jackets the win.
Allana Vasquez (3-1) received her first loss of the season, allowing six runs through two innings.
GAME TWO: Millsaps 4, LeTourneau 2
Flanery went 2-for-3 with a walk, run scored, and three stolen bases in the second game of the doubleheader.
Laynie Davis (1-1) took the loss in the circle, allowing four through 3.2 innings. Campbell Marter pitched 3.1 innings of shutout ball in relief.
LeTourneau struck first this time, as Carter hit a double over the centerfielder's head to score Flanery in the first inning.
Millsaps only needed one inning to secure the win in the final game, as they plated all four of their runs in the fourth.
Julia Strain singled through the left side, scoring two and taking the lead, followed by back-to-back singles in the same spot to score another pair, giving the Majors a 4-1 lead.
Bubert scored Noriega on a groundout in the bottom of the fourth, but both teams would be held out of the scoring column for the remainder of the game.Â
Hailey Peterson (1-0) allowed just one run in 5.2 innings of relief, securing the winning effort.
Caroline Mathis went 5-for-7 on the day to lead the Majors to the split decision.Â
