SHREVEPORT, La. -- A six-run first inning and a complete-game shutout from
Clayton Holt led the LeTourneau baseball team to a 12-0, run-rule, victory over Centenary in game one of the three-game SCAC series at Shehee Stadium on Friday night.
It was the second run-rule win for LeTourneau (10-8, 8-5 SCAC) in the last three games.
Holt (3-1) was dominant as he collected his first career complete-game and first shutout. The right-hander allowed just two hits and struck out five in his seven innings of work. Centenary did not register its first hit until two outs in the fifth inning.
A six-run first inning was all Holt and the YellowJackets needed.
LeTourneau sent 12 batters to the plate in the opening frame and scored six runs on three hits.
Jonah McDaniel put the YellowJackets on the board with a two-run single, scoring
Austin Wiederhold and
Jack Kale, to make it 2-0.Â
Cody Brady had the third hit of the inning as his infield single plated
Zach Baker to extend the lead to 4-0.
Spencer Alexander had a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, while
Giancarlo Meléndez had an RBI fielder's choice before Kale worked an RBI walk to cap the six-run inning.
In the third inning, LeTourneau added four more runs despite collecting just one hit. Centenary allowed runs on a bases-loaded walk to Kale, two wild pitches, and one passed ball as LeTourneau built a 10-0 lead.
Blake Vice added an RBI single in the fifth and a wild pitch in the sixth brought home Brady to make it 12-0.
LeTourneau drew nine walks and had six hit-by-pitches. The six hit batters tied a program single-game record, and the most since LeTourneau batters were hit six times vs. Occidental on March 11, 2025.
Brady went 2-for-5 to lead LeTourneau's seven-hit offense. Wiederhold, Kale, McDaniel, Vice, and
Max Frels all had one hit each.
Centenary starter Jacob Broussard (1-3) got the loss as he went only 0.2 innings and allowed six runs.
