LONGVIEW, Texas -- In the latest Scoreboard/Clippd national rankings, the LeTourneau women's golf team climbed to a program-record spot at No. 33 while the men held steady inside the top-30 at No. 28.
The No. 33 ranking for the LeTourneau women is the highest in program history. The men moved up two spots in this week's poll.
The LeTourneau women finished third at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational on March 9-10, led by top-five finishes from
Kinley Pessel and
Hannah Newell. The YellowJackets continue at a program-record pace with a team scoring average of 322.69 (314.5 adjusted average) with five top-four finishes and one tournament title.
Pessel also remains in the top-25 nationally as she moved to No. 23 this week. The junior leads the team with a 75.00 scoring average and three tournament titles in five events. Pessel has four rounds at or better than par and is a three-time SCAC Golfer of the Week honoree.
LeTourneau is the top-rated team in the SCAC and Pessel is the top individually-ranked player in the conference.
The LeTourneau men have been no lower than No. 30 all season and moved to No. 28 in this week's release. LeTourneau is also currently No. 23 in the latest Golfweek/Bushnell Top 25 (March 6).
The top-rated team in the SCAC, the YellowJackets placed second at the FST Crossing Creeks Invitational on March 9-10 and have two tournament wins on the year. As a team, LeTourneau has a 294.06 scoring average (291.9 adjusted) for the season.
Six men are averaging better than a 75 for the season, led by sophomore
Owen Prewitt at 72.47. Prewitt is the top-ranked player in the SCAC at No. 37 nationally and has four top-10 finishes with one tournament medalist honor.Â
LeTourneau is back in action against a SCAC-heavy Linda Lowery Invitational on March 23-24 at the Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock.
