Softball Suffers Late Loss to Ozarks

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team was one out and one strike away from taking game one of the series, but Ozarks produced four straight hits to score three runs to defeat the YellowJackets, 3-2, on Friday night at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.

LeTourneau (8-14, 5-11 SCAC) led 2-0 entering the seventh, but Ozarks (12-7, 8-5 SCAC) scratched across three in its final at-bat to take the series opener.

The YellowJackets took a 1-0 lead in the first when Maddie Flanery tripled to start the frame and scored on Rylie Shipp's rocket up the middle that went off Ozarks pitcher Bailee Cowell's glove for an infield single.

The score stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth. LeTourneau added what was then an insurance run as Laila LaCapra led off the inning with a single and later scored on Taylor Gouge's single to left field to make it 2-0.

Laynie Davis was outstanding in the circle for LeTourneau, not allowing a run for 6.2 innings. In the seventh, Davis retired the first two batters to put LeTourneau one out away from a win.

Ozarks responded, though, as Lori-Ann Hughes had a two-strike single to keep the visiting Eagles alive and Grace Price followed with a single of her own. Brilea Rofkahr fought off a two-strike pitch and dumped it down the right field line for a double to score pinch-runner Jayci Bradley to cut the LeTourneau lead to 2-1. Emma Reynolds had the big hit as her two-run double to the left-center field gap plated two and gave Ozarks a 3-2 lead.

LeTourneau got a runner on in the seventh when Kylee Davis singled, but the YellowJackets stranded her on first.

Davis (1-2) went seven innings in the circle and allowed three runs on eight hits. Cowell (8-3) also went the distance for Ozarks as she allowed two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

LeTourneau had six different players record one hit. Kamryn Uher had two hits for Ozarks.
