Women's Tennis Downed at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. -- A day after setting a record for best start in program history, the LeTourneau women's tennis team could not quite complete a comeback in a 4-3 loss at Hendrix on Friday at the Hatcher Tennis Center.

LeTourneau (6-3, 3-1 SCAC) trailed 2-0 in the match, but fought back to even the score at 3-3 before Hendrix (4-5, 3-1 SCAC) took the decisive match to secure the victory.

Chloe Tesser and Kylie Weeks continued to dominate at the top line in doubles play as the duo bounced Hendrix's Caroline Lasley and Josie Leffingwell, 6-3. The win moved the tandem to 7-1 in dual matches on the year.

Hendrix took the doubles point, however, with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. The host Warriors' Evie Sandlin and Aysha Hosam outlasted LeTourneau's Maddie Nichol and Anaiah Smith, 6-4, at No. 2 and Hendrix took the No. 3 flight with Kate Adcox and Abigail Youngberg defeating Emmy Phillips and Lindley Vickers, 6-2.

LeTourneau trailed 2-0 after Leffingwell defeated Nichol 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 flight in singles, but the YellowJackets came back.

Smith took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Adcox at the No. 4 spot to put LeTourneau on the board. Tesser followed with a second-set tiebreak win to come out on top 6-0, 7-6(6) over Sandlin at the No. 3 flight to make it 2-2.

The YellowJackets led briefly as Weeks knocked off Lasley at the No. 1 flight in three sets 0-6, 6-2, 6-1. Hendrix evened the score again with Hosam's 6-4, 6-3 win over Phillips at No. 5.

The match came down to the No. 6 flight. Vickers battled throughout the match, and led for parts of the second set, but could not hold off Youngberg in a 6-3, 6-4 loss as the Warriors clinched the win.

The loss was just the second in the last eight matches for LeTourneau. It is the second 6-3 start to a season in program history.
