Baseball Can't Overcome Eagles Offense, Drops DH

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- LeTourneau baseball couldn't overcome a potent Ozarks offense in the SCAC doubleheader, dropping both games on Saturday at Lonnie Qualls Field.

LeTourneau moves to 12-11 and 10-8 in conference play as the Eagles (10-15, 4-11 SCAC) take the SCAC series 2-1.

GAME ONE: Ozarks 15, LeTourneau 4 (7 Innings)

Jack Kale went 2-for-3 with a walk, Jonah McDaniel added two hits, and Giancarlo Meléndez went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

LeTourneau struck in the top of the first when McDaniel knocked a double to left, scoring two. Ozarks answered with three in the home half of the opening inning, taking the lead when Matthew McDonald singled up the middle, plating a pair to make it 3-2.

Melendez regained the lead in the second inning when his double brought home Zach Baker and Seth Hudson, both reaching via hit-by-pitch.

The Eagles answered abundantly in the fourth inning, pouring on 10 runs, capped by a Gabriel Ellison homer to make it 13-4.

Ozarks tacked on one more in both the fifth and sixth innings to enter run-rule territory, and LeTourneau was unable to find their way at the plate.

Blake Goodridge (2-1) allowed six runs through his three-inning start, collecting the loss.

Logan Tucker (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Eagles, throwing three shutout innings.

GAME TWO: Ozarks 17, LeTourneau 12

Austin Wiederhold, Kale, and Savage all homered in the finale, but it wouldn't be enough as LeTourneau couldn't mount the comeback.

Savage and Wiederhold collected two hits, two RBIs, and two runs, while Blake Vice went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, two runs, and an RBI.

McDaniel, Baker, and Hudson added hits in the loss, and Cody Brady walked twice.

LeTourneau once again had a successful first, as Hudson capped a four-run inning with a two-RBI double to center field.

Kale and Savage mashed back-to-back homers in the second to extend the lead to 6-0, but Taber Childs homered to right field for the Eagles to cut the lead to 6-4 after two.

Matthew McDonald hit a two-run game-tying homer in the third inning, before Ozarks once again had a game-changing fourth inning.

The Eagles plated nine runs on six hits in the fourth, highlighted by two-RBI knocks from Ellison, Connor Reed, and Rene Garcia, giving Ozarks a 15-6 lead.

After plating two in the fifth inning, Ozarks entered run-rule territory, but the Jackets scored six across the next three innings -- highlighted by a four-run seventh -- to cut into the lead.

It wouldn't be enough, though, as the Eagles held off the comeback attempt late.

Ameron Sheikh (1-3) earned the loss, allowing eight runs in three innings, while Evan Curry (1-0) earned the win in relief for Ozarks.

Ellison had four hits and six RBIs on the day for the Eagles, while Tyler Michlitsch plated four on four hits.
