MARSHALL, Texas -- LeTourneau softball fell twice to No. 6 East Texas Baptist in a Saturday doubleheader at Taylor Field.
ETBU was too much in the opening game, defeating LeTourneau (11-17) 8-0 in just five innings.
The Tigers scored a pair of runs in both the first and second innings, before adding three runs in the fourth.
Maddie Flanery singled and stole a base,
Jenna Carter doubled, and
Raina Doggett and Kylie Davis each produced a hit.
Laynie Davis (3-3) received the loss in her four-inning start, while Avery Holland (11-1) pitched a complete-game shutout for ETBU, earning the win.
Game two told an entirely different story, as LeTourneau held control for the majority of the contest.
After back-to-back walks in the first by Flanery and
Rylie Shipp,
Jenna Carter laid down a bunt single to load the bases for Doggett.
Doggett then worked a bases-loaded walk to plate Flanery and give LeTourneau a 1-0 lead in the first.
That would be the only run to come home until the seventh inning.
Brooke Bubert pitched a gem of a no-decision, throwing four scoreless innings in the circle, working out of jams in all of them.
Bubert was relieved by
Bree Brege (3-5) who shut the doors in the fifth and sixth, until Piper Morton launched a solo homer to center field to tie the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
The extra-inning automatic runner came home in the eighth on an Aleyna St. Jean single to left field, as the Tigers won in walk-off fashion.
Laynie Davis and
Mandy Hoback garnered the other two hits for LeTourneau
Alexis Kemp (6-2) allowed just the one run in eight innings for ETBU, earning the winning decision.
Ryan Stratman went 5-for-7 with three runs scored on the day for the Tigers, while Izabella Morales added four hits.
