FRANKSTON, Texas -- Backed by a pair of top-10 finishers, the LeTourneau women's golf team finished the regular season with a second place finish at the Goliath Compression Invitational at the par-72 Pine Dunes Resort and Golf Club on Tuesday.
LeTourneau finished just four strokes behind team champion East Texas Baptist. The YellowJackets finished with a 641 (319-322), while ETBU took the title with a 637 (322-315). Northwestern (Minn.) golfer Paige Johnson took medalist honors with a 9-over, 153 (76-77).
Kinley Pessel and
Hannah Newell continued to lead the YellowJackets as they finished second and tied for sixth, respectively. Pessel finished 12-over, 156 (81-75) and moved up the leaderboard with her 75 on Tuesday. She had two birdies in each of the rounds and earned her sixth top-five finish of the season.
Newell led the field after round one and ended the tournament 14-over, 158 (75-83). Newell had two birdies in her opening-round 75 and then recorded one eagle in her final round. It was her fourth top-10 finish of the year and 19th of her career.
Elena Jurado placed 14th overall with a 163 (78-85). Jurado had a career-best round of 6-over, 78 on Monday as she recorded three birdies. She finished the tournament with four birdies.
Emerson Swanner finished in a tie for 15th at 164 (85-79) as she finished with a 79 on Tuesday. Swanner recorded an eagle in her final round on Tuesday.Â
Calli Hoesterey finished with a 170 (85-85) and placed in a tie for 23rd. Hoesterey had one birdie in her first-round 85.
Halle Carr (176, 88-88) and
Lexie Cannon (177, 89-88) also competed for LeTourneau and each registered one birdie in the tournament.
