Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader, Takes Series from #RV/25 Concordia Texas

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau baseball clinched the SCAC series against #RV/25 Concordia Texas by sweeping the Thursday doubleheader, winning 12-5 in game one, before run-ruling game two 10-0 after seven innings.

LeTourneau plated 22 runs on 22 hits on the day, while the starting pitching combined for 13 innings, only allowing one run.

This win marks the sixth time this season the YellowJackets (9-7, 7-4 SCAC) have beaten a nationally-recognized program, all six coming at Conrad-Vernon Field.

Spencer Alexander hit 3-for-6 with 5 RBIs and a pair of walks, Zach Baker went 5-for-7 at the plate while collecting 3 RBIs and a pair of runs, and Cody Brady went 4-for-7 with three runs scored.

GAME ONE: LeTourneau 12, Concordia Texas 5

Clayton Holt (2-1) scattered five hits across six innings in the win, only allowing one run.

Alexander went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the team in both categories, while Royce Davis hit 2-for-5 at the plate, including a solo homer. Jonah McDaniel brought in three baserunners, going 1-for-3 with two free passes.

After the Tornados (8-5, 6-5 SCAC) plated one to open the day, Davis' homer tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.

The bats woke up early, as the YellowJackets plated eight across the next two innings.

McDaniel walked with bases loaded to produce the first run, followed by an RBI single by Baker to make it 3-1. Alexander followed with a bases-loaded triple to open the lead up to 6-1.

Austin Wiederhold mashed a double to right field to plate Brady, followed by an RBI single from Davis, who later scored on a wild pitch to make things 11-1.

Concordia plated five in the seventh to attempt a comeback, but it wasn't enough as LeTourneau took the series opener.

Rowdy Hoadley (0-1) was hit with the losing decision after allowing six runs through 2.1 innings in his start.

GAME TWO: LeTourneau 10, Concordia 0 (7 innings)

Blake Goodridge (2-0) shoved seven scoreless innings in the complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out seven.

Baker and Brady had identical statlines, both going 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored.

The scoreboard was quiet until the bottom of the third, where the YellowJackets plated five to ignite the clincher.

Baker singled to score Giancarlo Meléndez -- who collected his first career hit in game one -- immediately followed by a sac fly by Alexander to make the score 2-0.

Brady produced a two RBI single later in the third, while Max Frels scored on an error in the next at-bat to cap the five-run inning.

Baker brought home Meléndez once again in the fourth to lead 6-0, and Jordan Baynes singled to right in the fifth, plating two and extending the lead to 8-0.

The run-rule was reached after Baynes hit an RBI double off the wall, and came home just two pitches later after a Tornado fielding error.

Gavin Voth (0-3) received the loss in his start, allowing five runs through 2.2 innings. Landon Hyle led Concordia with three hits on the day.
