AUSTIN, Texas -- The LeTourneau softball team scored 14 runs on 22 hits between both games of the doubleheader, but could not hold off Concordia Texas in a pair of losses on Thursday in SCAC play.
Concordia took game one, 13-9, and completed the twin-bill sweep with a 7-5 victory in the nightcap.
LeTourneau (3-10, 3-8 SCAC) and Concordia (10-2, 8-2 SCAC) complete the series on Friday at 12 p.m.
GAME ONE: Concordia 13, LeTourneau 9
Concordia built an 11-2 lead after four innings and held off LeTourneau, 13-9, in Thursday's first game.
Taylor Gouge went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs to lead LeTourneau's 14-hit offense.
Maddie Flanery,
Laila LaCapra, and
Brooke Bubert had two hits each -- with Bubert providing the only extra-base hit (a triple) for the YellowJackets.
Down 11-2 in the fifth after Concordia had scored in each of the first four innings, LeTourneau tallied five runs to get back in the game.
Raina Doggett had an RBI single before Gouge produced her own run-scoring single to make it 11-4. Bubert then tripled home Gouge and
Tessa Reeves to get within 11-6. Flanery capped the inning with an RBI single to draw the YellowJackets within 11-7.
Concordia answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. LeTourneau added a run in the sixth on Gouge's RBI single and then tallied one more in the seventh on
Kylee Davis' RBI fielder's choice.
Bubert (1-5) got the loss in the circle going 4.1 innings.Â
Kylie Kirk (4-0) got the win for Concordia as she went 4.1 innings, while Mallory Mata collected her first save. Kylie Denaro went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Concordia.
GAME TWO: Concordia 7, LeTourneau 5
LeTourneau took a 2-0 lead in the first, but a three-run first for Concordia and a four-run fourth was enough for the host Tornados to take game two, 7-5.
Rylie Shipp's RBI single in the first gave LeTourneau a 1-0 lead and
Laynie Davis' RBI ground out made it 2-0 in the top of the first inning.
That lead did not last long as a Kylie Kirk double in the bottom of the first plated two runs and Concordia grabbed the lead for good on a Lilly  Longoria sacrifice fly that made it 3-2.
The Tornados tacked on four runs in the fourth to extend the margin to 7-2.
LeTourneau scored three times in the fifth to get within 7-5. LaCapra had an infield single that plated Flanery before a bases loaded walk to Gouge and a Doggett RBI single. LeTourneau threatened for more in the fifth with the bases loaded and two outs, but could not capitalize.
Shipp went 2-for-4 while Doggett was 2-for-3 in the loss for LeTourneau. Gouge added one hit and an RBI as she totaled five hits in the two games.
Bree Brege (1-3) took the loss in the circle, while
Campbell Marler tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.
Karlee Mathis (3-0) went the distance to earn the win for Concordia.
