Softball Downed in Series Finale at Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas -- A four-run second inning and a three-run sixth inning was not enough for the LeTourneau softball team in a 10-7 loss at Concordia Texas in the SCAC series finale on Friday.

LeTourneau (3-11, 3-9 SCAC) totaled seven runs on 13 hits in the loss, and had 23 runs on 35 hits across the three-game series but could not scratch out a win against Concordia (11-2, 9-2 SCAC).

The YellowJackets answered a four-run first inning by Concordia with four runs of their own in the top of the second. Taylor Gouge continued her torrid weekend with an RBI bunt single in the second that scored Laila LaCapra to put the YellowJackets on the board. Raina Doggett added an RBI single and Brooke Bubert produced a two-run double to even the score at 4-4.

Concordia responded with a single run in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth to grab a 10-4 lead. Lilly  Longoria went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Tornados.

In the sixth, LeTourneau got back in the game. Bubert delivered an RBI triple to right field that plated Gouge before Maddie Flanery had an RBI infield single to make it 10-6. Jenna Carter then added an RBI double to get the YellowJackets within 10-7.

In the seventh, LeTourneau loaded the bases with two outs but could not complete the comeback.

Carter, Rylie Shipp, Gouge, and Bubert all had two hits apiece. Bubert finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Flanery, LaCapra, Laynie Davis, Doggett, and Kylee Davis all had one hit each.

Bree Brege (1-4) made the start in the circle and allowed two earned runs in 2.1 innings. Campbell Marler threw 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Concordia starter Mia Post (3-0) collected the win after going 5.2 innings. Karlee Mathis notched the save after recording the final four outs.
