HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The LeTourneau women's tennis team collected its fourth straight victory on Sunday with a 4-1 defeat of Carroll (Wis.) in Hilton Head.
It was the second win for LeTourneau (4-1) on its Spring Break trip to South Carolina. The win also avenged a loss to Carroll (7-7) in last year's trip to Hilton Head.
LeTourneau took the doubles point in dramatic fashion. At the top flight,
Chloe Tesser and
Kylie Weeks continued their dominance at the spot with a 6-4 win over Natasa Pupovac and Katherine Trifilio. Carroll took No. 3 doubles, leaving the No. 2 flight as the decider for the doubles segment.
Weeks and Tesser moved to 4-0 as a tandem on the year at the top flight.
Down 4-2 in the match,
Maddie Nichol and
Anaiah Smith rallied and overcame Carroll's Aalaiya Jacklin and Nawal Souki 6-4 to put the YellowJackets ahead 1-0.
Weeks got a win by retirement at the No. 1 flight as she was up 4-1 on Pupovac when the Carroll No. 1 player had to withdraw. Smith took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Souki at No. 4 and Tesser earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mia Franke at the No. 3 spot as LeTourneau clinched the win.
The match was played to clinch as inclement weather made its way into the area.
Lindley Vickers was ahead 4-3 on Gracie Niebler at the No. 6 flight, while
Emmy Phillips was battling Makayla Counsell at No. 5 when the match was sealed by LeTourneau.
