Softball Stuns Dallas With Comeback Win

IRVING, Texas -- Down to its final out and trailing by a run, the LeTourneau softball team scratched two runs across and then outlasted Dallas in extra-innings, 10-9, in the SCAC series opener on Friday night in Irving.

The YellowJackets (12-20, 7-15 SCAC) trailed 8-7 heading into the seventh inning. After the first two batters were retired, Natalie Noriega's routine fly ball to right field was dropped to keep LeTourneau alive. Maddie Flanery followed with an infield single and Noriega never stopped running to come around to score the game-tying run. After Flanery stole second, Rylie Shipp put the YellowJackets ahead with a single to center field to make it 9-8.

Dallas (6-22, 1-20 SCAC) tied the game again in the bottom of the seventh on Emma Sherman's sacrifice fly to send the game into extra innings.

In the eighth, LeTourneau again had two outs and nobody on base. Kylee Davis drew a walks before Mandy Hoback collected her third hit of the game with a single to right field. Taylor Gouge followed with a single to plate Davis and put LeTourneau ahead 10-9.

All three runs LeTourneau scored between the seventh and eighth innings occurred after two outs with nobody on base.

Brooke Bubert worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth -- and got a tremendous running catch in center field from Flanery -- to keep the Crusaders off the board and secure the game-one victory.

Bubert (5-6) came on in relief and threw the final 6.1 innings allowing four runs with three strikeouts.

LeTourneau collected 16 hits in the win, led by three apiece from Flanery, Jenna Carter, and Hoback. Flanery, Shipp, Carter, and Gouge each had two RBIs. All nine starters in the lineup recorded at least one hit.

Kristiana Guerra (3-9) got the loss in relief for Dallas. Sherman finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
